With an area of 1614 square kilometers and a population of nearly 300,000 inhabitants, the province of Ragusa is the smallest of Sicily. It occupies the south-eastern and largely directed towards the channel of Malta. Its territory has a hilly aspect: the mountainous and very sweet and always lower than the heights of 1,000 meters (the Iblei with 986 meters of Mount Lauro is the highest), the fertile lowland areas slope gently toward the coast low, sand and uniform, consisting of alluvial soil.
